To whom and for what purpose?

  • Elderkun reverses and slows down the progression of symptoms in cats with age-related behavioral changes (cognitive dysfunction syndrome), such as disorientation, altered interactions with people or other animals, sleep-wake cycle disturbances, house soiling, changes in activity levels, etc., improving their quality of life and your relationship.
  • This supplement is also ideal for preventing the onset of any behavioral changes and neurological symptoms associated with aging, so that no matter how old they are, your cat keeps being their same self! Since neurodegeneration is a progressive process, the earlier alterations are addressed, the more effective the treatment will be. Cats are often considered senior when they reach half of their life expectancy. Consequently, administering Elderkun should be considered around seven or eight years old, as a preventive measure.

 

The use of ELDERKUN is not recommended in cases of:

  • Patients with impaired blood clotting, concurrent administration with platelet aggregation inhibitors, or conditions involving bleeding.

 

How is it administered?

Daily recommendation to be added on top of food. This dose can be divided into different servings throughout the day.

Elderkun for cats can be administered together with any type of diet (kibble, home-cooked or commercial, BARF, or dehydrated). It can also be given chronically without the need for breaks between containers.

How long should I administer it?

  • In cats with age-related behavioral changes such as disorientation, altered sleep, and changes in activity levels, etc.: Administration is recommended for at least 3 months. However, once symptoms begin, the product is recommended for chronic use.
  • For the prevention of any behavioral changes and neurological symptoms associated with aging: Administer half of the recommended dose as a preventive treatment.

How do its active ingredients work?

Omega 3 fatty acids

Modulan la producción de eicosanoides, siendo los eicosanoides resultantes del metabolismo de los ácidos grasos omega 3 menos estimulantes de la respuesta inflamatoria que los resultantes de los ácidos grasos omega 6. Además, los ácidos grasos omega 3 son los precursores de las resolvinas y las protectinas, sustancias contrareguladoras de la inflamación que sirven como agonistas de los mecanismos antiinflamatorios endógenos y actúan de forma significativa en la resolución de la inflamación.

Phosphatidylserine

Es el principal bloque de construcción de las membranas celulares y tiene como objetivo facilitar la transducción de señales neuronales y mejorar la transmisión colinérgica. Se ha demostrado que la fosfatidilserina afecta positivamente la liberación de neurotransmisores y la densidad de receptores de neurotransmisores en varias regiones del cerebro de animales con problemas de memoria, por lo que confiere protección frente a la muerte neuronal (neuroprotección).

L-Carnitine

La L-Carnitina es el transportador de ácidos grasos desde el citosol hacia las mitocondrias de las células, siendo responsable del paso limitante de la oxidación lipídica. El aumento de los niveles celulares de carnitina mejora el transporte de ácidos grasos a las mitocondrias y, consecuentemente, el metabolismo de las grasas.

Carotenoids

Poseen propiedades antioxidantes e inmunoestimulantes.

Vitamin E

La inflamación genera una gran cantidad de radicales libres, que a su vez aceleran el proceso inflamatorio. La vitamina E es uno de los antioxidantes más efectivos para proteger de la oxidación los ácidos grasos poliinsaturados constituyentes de las membranas celulares. Ésta evita la oxidación de los lípidos al eliminar los radicales peroxilo antes de que estos puedan reaccionar con los ácidos grasos o proteínas de las membranas celulares adyacentes.

Vitamin C

Es el agente reductor más potente disponible para las células. La vitamina C regenera el enzima glutatión, neutraliza los radicales libres tanto intra como extracelularmente y protege contra la inactivación de proteínas mediada por radicales libres asociada a la rotura oxidativa de neutrófilos.

Selenium

Actúa como cofactor de la glutatión peroxidasa, un enzima antioxidante que protege los tejidos contra el estrés oxidativo, al catalizar la reducción de los peróxidos de hidrógeno e hidroperóxidos orgánicos y al regenerar la vitamina E.
