The go-to anti-hairball supplement for cats

The nutritional supplement Hairballkun® prevents the formation of hairballs in your cat. This supplement is ideal for all types of cats, but especially for those with long hair living indoors. It's your go-to supplement to reduce formation and promote the elimination of hairballs. It can be administered to animals of any age!

What is Hairballkun made of?

Hairballkun for cats is made from natural active ingredients, commonly found in food, which synergistically act together. Thanks to its principles, this dietary supplement reduces shedding, promotes the elimination of ingested hair through feces, prevents the formation of hairballs, and improves your cat's well-being.

Composition

Ingredients

White mineral oil, psyllium husk (19.1%), flavoring by-product (hydrolyzed pork liver and yeast), sunflower oil, and powdered cellulose (2.7%).

Nutritional Additives

Vitamins: Vitamin E - 4,545 IU/kg, Biotin - 91 mg/kg; Trace elements: Zinc (zinc glycinate chelate) - 1,360 mg/kg.

Analytical Components

Crude protein 5.19%; Crude fiber 2.62%; Crude fat 61.90%; Crude ash 5.15%; Omega 6 fatty acids 4.46%.

How do its active ingredients work?

Mineral oil

It is an inert substance that is not absorbed and works by softening hairballs and providing lubrication to ease their passage through the intestines.

Psyllium husk

It is a source of gel-forming soluble fiber, which has the property of increasing the viscosity of the digestive contents, slowing gastric emptying. In this way, psyllium husk promotes the binding of hair to food particles and, therefore, increases the transfer of hair from the stomach to the duodenum and improves passage through the intestine.

Cellulose

It is a source of insoluble and non-fermentable fiber, which has the property of delaying gastric emptying. Therefore, cellulose leads to the binding of hairs to food particles, resulting in more hairs being transferred to the duodenum. Additionally, cellulose increases the rate of intestinal transit of the digesta, which in turn promotes the excretion of hairs with the feces.

Omega-6 fatty acids

They are essential fatty acids that improve the condition of the skin and coat, thereby reducing transepidermal water loss, which decreases hair loss and irritation. Consequently, it promotes the reduction of hair ingestion.

Vitamin E

It is one of the most effective antioxidants for protecting polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are constituents of cell membranes, from oxidation. Vitamin E prevents lipid oxidation by scavenging peroxyl radicals before they can react with the fatty acids or proteins of adjacent cell membranes.

View more View less

Biotin

It acts as a cofactor for carboxylase synthetase enzymes. This group of enzymes catalyzes the biosynthesis of fatty acids, making this vitamin crucial for maintaining skin barrier health.

Zinc

Highly bioavailable source of zinc. Numerous studies have linked zinc deficiency to many dermatoses in cats, as it is essential for wound healing and turnover of epithelial cells. Moreover, zinc deficiency accelerates the development of clinical signs due to lack of essential fatty acids, as the activity of the ∆-6-desaturase enzyme is reduced in the absence of zinc. This enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of EPA and DHA from other simpler fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acid). Additionally, zinc also acts as an antioxidant by being part of the Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase.

To whom and for what purpose?

  • If there are symptoms of hairballs such as vomiting, retching, and/or coughing, Hairballkun facilitates the expulsion of the hairballs through the feces and consequently reverses the associated symptoms, improving your kitten's well-being. Stop your cat's coughing and retching with Hairballkun!
  • Hairballkun prevents the formation of hairballs. The risk of hairballs forming in cats increases in those animals with longer and denser fur and who engage in constant grooming behavior. For cats that regularly or intermittently suffer from hairballs, constant preventive treatment is highly recommended.

Generally, the formation of hairballs in cats is considered to arise as a result of routine grooming activity where cats ingest varying amounts of hair. Individual strands of ingested hair cannot progress through the intestines, so they tangle in the stomach lining and eventually conglomerate into solid masses in the stomach or intestines.

Usage of HAIRBALLKUN is not recommended in case of:

  • Malabsorption syndrome, as Hairballkun may interfere with the processes of digestion and nutrient absorption.
  • Diarrhea or poor fecal quality, as a large amount of fiber may cause irritation to the intestinal epithelium.
  • Patients with suspected intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus, or intestinal perforation, which can endanger the life of the animal and may require surgical intervention.

This supplement may slightly soften the texture of the feces.

How is it administered?

Daily recommendation for direct administration into the mouth, on top of food, or on the paw or snout to encourage the animal to ingest the product while cleaning:

5

Hairballkun can be administered chronically without the need for any resting period between tubes.

How long should I administer it?

  • If there are symptoms of hairballs: twice a day for 5 consecutive days as an initial dose. In this case, the stools may appear softer than normal. Then continue with the maintenance dose indicated according to the risk of hairball formation.
  • To prevent the formation of hairballs in:
    • Short-haired cats, with outdoor access and not in shedding season: once a week as maintenance.
    • Long-haired cats, without outdoor access and in shedding season: three times a week as maintenance.
