A balanced diet should contain fibers, as they help the proper functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. In this regard, pumpkin is a rich source of soluble fiber, which helps delay gastric emptying and slows down intestinal transit time. This will be beneficial both in episodes of diarrhea and constipation. In the first case, by slowing down intestinal transit time, soluble fiber allows the body more time to absorb water from the digesta at the colon level, thus forming firmer stools. In the second case, the problem is that there is too much water reabsorption due to the slow passage of stools through the colon. In these cases, soluble fiber prevents part of this water from being reabsorbed by the colon, thus promoting stool evacuation.
