To whom and for what purpose?

  • In cases of severe diarrhea (of bacterial, viral, parasitic, or dietary origin), Enterokun Severe reduces symptoms and promotes the animal's rapid recovery.

 

Use of ENTEROKUN SEVERE is not recommended in cases of:

  • Patients with altered coagulation, concurrent administration with platelet aggregation inhibitor drugs, or conditions involving bleeding (hemorrhagic diarrhea).
  • Conditions with impaired liver function.
  • Conditions with impaired kidney function.

How is it administered?

Daily recommendation to be added on top of the food or dissolved in the drinking water. Distribute the daily dose in small intakes throughout the day.

Administration is recommended while symptoms persist and up to 2 days after their disappearance. Do not administer for more than 2 weeks.

How do their active ingredients work?

Potassium chloride

Replenishes fecal losses of K and Cl and promotes water absorption. Severe hypokalemia can cause significant problems in cardiac function.

Sodium chloride

Replenishes fecal losses of Na and Cl and promotes water absorption.

Glucose

The transport of tryptophan across the blood-brain barrier depends on the plasma concentrations of tryptophan and other large neutral amino acids (LNAA; tyrosine, phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, and valine), as they compete for the same transport mechanism. A high postprandial insulin level in the blood after a carbohydrate load favors the transport of tryptophan to the brain because it mediates the uptake of LNAA into muscle but not tryptophan, which is largely bound to plasma albumin, increasing the tryptophan/LNAA ratio in the blood and favoring its transport into the brain.

Trisodium citrate

As a buffer salt, it helps to combat metabolic acidosis caused by fluid loss from the caudal small intestine and large intestine, which contain a higher concentration of bicarbonate than plasma. Trisodium citrate is converted into bicarbonate in the liver at a 1:3 ratio. Thus, through the citric acid cycle, one molecule of citrate consumes 3 protons and produces 3 molecules of bicarbonate.

Zinc

Maintains the function and integrity of the intestinal barrier at the level of tight junctions, thus preventing the entry of antigens, toxins, and pathogenic bacteria that cause inflammation.

Enterococcus faecium

Improves the balance of the intestinal microbiota. Competition for nutrients, adhesion sites, and the production of antimicrobial substances (short-chain fatty acids, defensins, etc.) inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria while promoting the development of beneficial bacteria.

Fructooligosaccharides

Prebiotic component, which means it resists digestion and reaches the colon intact where it serves as an energy source for beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus spp, Bacteroides spp, and Bifidobacterium spp), thus stimulating their growth and/or activity. As a result of its fermentation, the production of toxic substances (ammonia and biogenic amines) decreases and the release of short-chain fatty acids (acetate, propionate, lactate, and butyrate) into the intestinal lumen increases, reducing the presence of pathogenic bacteria (E. coli and C. perfringens), thanks to the reduction of colonic pH.

Mannan-oligosaccharides

They capture and eliminate pathogens from the gastrointestinal tract, as they act as analogs of receptors for type 1 fimbriae, present in gram-negative pathogenic bacteria (E. coli and Salmonella). They also stimulate the immune system, increasing IgA secretion and, therefore, local resistance to antigen invasion.

L-glutamic acid

Precursor of glutamine, considered a conditionally essential amino acid, necessary during intestinal recovery. As the preferred energy substrate for rapidly proliferating cells, glutamine is necessary to maintain the integrity of the intestinal mucosa and gut-associated lymphoid tissue, thus preventing intestinal atrophy and bacterial translocation.

How and when to administer it?

Administer the recommended daily amount of Enterokun Severe by adding it to the food or dissolving it in the drinking water. It is advisable to split the dose into several administrations throughout the day to facilitate its absorption.

Administration should be maintained while symptoms persist and up to two days after they disappear. Prolonged use for more than two consecutive weeks is not recommended.

The indicative dose is as follows:

  • For animals under 10 kg: 0.5 tablespoons dissolved in 0.5 glasses of water, with an approximate duration of the container of 10 days.
  • For animals between 10 and 20 kg: 1 tablespoon dissolved in 1.5 glasses of water, with an approximate duration of the container of 5 days.
  • For animals between 20 and 30 kg: 1.5 tablespoons dissolved in 2 glasses of water, with an approximate duration of the container of 3 days.
  • For animals over 30 kg: 2 tablespoons dissolved in 2.5 glasses of water, with an approximate duration of the container of 2 days.

Each tablespoon equals 16.5 g and each glass of water 250 ml. The measuring spoon is included inside the container. Make sure the animal always has fresh water freely available.

How long does it take to take effect?

Improvements can usually be noticed from the second administration, observing a change in the texture of the stools. The time may vary depending on each pet.

Is it suitable for all ages?

Yes, this product is suitable for dogs and cats of all ages.

Are there any contraindications?

It is not recommended for animals with coagulation disorders, hemorrhagic diarrhea, or those undergoing treatment with antiplatelet drugs, in cases of liver failure and in cases of kidney failure.
