Protect your furry friend from ticks, fleas, and lice
With the arrival of spring 🌻 we go crazy making plans: whether it’s a vermouth on the bar terrace 🍻, a Sunday morning hike, or an afternoon of shopping. Going outside is what we like the most and under no circumstances are we willing to leave our furry friends at home.
Unfortunately, not everything is good news… Spring brings a series of health risks for our little animals 🐕 that you should know about. One of them is the increase of ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes due to high temperatures 🌞 and humidity. These parasites, if not treated properly, can cause diseases such as Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, and Leishmaniasis, which we have already talked about in this last blog.
It is vital to know these risks, 👩⚕️ the health of our furry friends and ours is at stake!
If you are more about prevention than cure, we advise you to periodically check your pet’s coat. A good time to do this is after walks in green areas 🍃, where fleas and ticks live. Another of our tips is to always keep a clean and tidy environment, thus avoiding the proliferation of unwanted organisms.
If you haven’t managed to prevent it ⏳, don’t worry! Below we share some advice so you can detect these parasites in time.
Ticks are insects that attach to the skin, usually in areas with little hair such as the ears 👂🏻 and between the toes. They feed on the animal’s blood, so the most common symptoms are tiredness, anemia, and itching.
The latter can also suggest the presence of fleas 🦟. Those of you with light-colored pets are lucky because the droppings they leave, being dark in color, are easier to detect.
If you notice 👀 that their skin is irritated, the problem may be lice. These usually settle on the neck and tail, although you can also find them near wounds.
Intestinal parasites 🦠 are harder to detect, but a good warning sign is vomiting. Dogs and cats can ingest worms or toxic microscopic organisms that they later expel, either through vomiting or diarrhea.
From Kunkay we recommend visiting the vet regularly to check their stools and verify that everything is in order. ✅
Now that you are an expert on parasites, you can relax and enjoy spring and good weather with your pet. We would love for you to tag us on Instagram @kunkaycare so we can share it! 🤳🏻
